The feasibility study examined technical and economic conditions of heat production sources operating in Kaunas district. The analysis of the feasibility and cost efficiency of the heat generating sources administered by the Kaunas District Municipality was carried out in the work, including:

• Evaluation of production efficiency of heat sources and the possibility to increase it considering the need for the investment and the impact of investment on the cost price of heat;
• Technical, economic and environmental analysis on the possibility to install different types of bio-fuels in the boiler houses;
• Assessment of the amount of investment required for the renovation of boiler houses and possible ways of financing;
• Preparation of principal recommendations for the management of the heat sector, legal and economical ways to attract potential private operators;
• Preparation of strategic recommendations for further performance of technical, economic and administrative activities for the development of the heat sector.
