The purpose of work was to assess technical, ecological and economic characteristics of the Klaipėda district heating system and to provide for the possible effect of European Union directives and of the national energy strategy on the development of the Klaipėda district-heating sector considering current, under construction and planned facilities of energy infrastructure. For this purpose, the current configuration of heat generating sources and their possible restructuring and development to meet the objectives of the Energy Strategy and ensure the high-quality supply of heat in Klaipėda city was analysed. The amount of investments and projects in heat production, and the influence of projects formed on the price of heat applied by AB Klaipeda Energy in the period of up to 2020 were set and assessed.
